Swansea
University’s College of Engineering invites applications for a
fully-funded 3 years PhD studentship investigating the modelling and
design of semiconductor nano-lasers. The studentship is open to UK/EU
and international students, but only UK/EU tuition fees will be paid.
The studentship covers the full cost of UK/EU tuition fees, plus a
tax-free stipend of £13,863 p.a. for three years. To be eligible for
this studentship candidate should have a first class honours degree or
an upper second class honours degree and a master’s degree in
mathematics, physics, or engineering. The deadline for applications is
Wednesday 1st October 2014.

Eligibility
- Academic requirements: Candidates should have a first class honours degree or an upper second class honours degree and a master’s degree in mathematics, physics, or engineering.
- A high level of numeracy and a good level of programming in Matlab and/or Fortran are also required.
- Residency criteria: The studentship is open to UK/EU and international students, but only UK/EU tuition fees will be paid. International students will be required to pay the remaining balance between UK/EU and international fees.

The main objective of the proposed research is to develop advanced computational techniques for understanding the properties of active nanoscale photonic devices and thereby lead to improved device design methodologies.
